About Shelly Haffly: Bridging Creativity with Professional Precision

Hi! I’m Shelly – a dedicated quilter, sewist, designer, and a pleasantly overworked Texas farm girl. Like many of you, life has led me down unexpected paths, but through it all, my passion for design and clear communication has been a constant.

Way, Way, Back in the Olden Days (the 90’s)

With 30 years of experience in technical illustrations, graphic design, and web design, I bring a unique blend of creative vision and corporate-level precision to your quilt patterns. For instance, I had the privilege of serving as the Senior Graphic Designer for Motorola’s Two Way Paging division. In that role, I was solely responsible for all the intricate technical illustrations for the publications department. I also pioneered the move to digital, being the first in the entire company to take our technical manuals online by creating interactive PDFs, and I built the very first internal company website for technicians to access these critical resources. My background is not just in design; it’s in making complex information understandable, accessible, and professional.

Life Happens: Ready or Not

A few years ago, after life’s twists and turns—including navigating new challenges on my farm after losing my husband—I found myself in a quilt pattern design class (thank you, Ally Ryde!). It was there I saw firsthand the struggle many talented women faced with the technical aspects of design software. A light bulb went off! I realized my extensive background, honed during years working for Fortune 500 companies, could be the missing piece for aspiring designers like you.

And so, Haffly Designs began. I’m here to bridge the gap between your beautiful creative visions and the polished, market-ready patterns they deserve. My goal is to empower quilt pattern designers to focus on what they do best – creating – while I handle the technical hurdles.

When I’m not transforming designs, you’ll find me managing a lively farm with 7 dogs, 8 goats, 25 chickens, 2 horses, and 6 rescued cats. If we meet over Zoom, you just never know how scruffy I might look! I don’t take my looks too seriously, so forgive me in advance for my hair in a wad on top of my head or having sweat drip off my face. It’s a farm life, and I grab time outside as often as my work schedule allows. Being a widow still very much in love with my late husband, getting gussied up is the last thing I spend time doing. I look forward to working with you!
